What Happened
On October 8, 2026, the Daily Caller published a report alleging that David Milstein, a top aide to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and stepson of Fox News host Mark Levin, suppressed a detailed embassy report concerning the killings of nine American citizens in the West Bank.
The report states that after the February killing of 19‑year‑old Nasrallah Abu Siyam, who was shot while trying to prevent settlers from stealing his livestock, thirty members of Congress sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanding updates on investigations into the string of killings.
By March, the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem had completed a report that found Israeli investigations had stalled, some cases were closed, and no one had been charged, but Milstein allegedly instructed staff to send a brief reply to Senator Chris Van Hollen rather than forwarding the full report.
The Daily Caller also notes that Milstein allegedly downplayed settlement expansion, dismissed mass casualties during food‑aid deliveries, and created a chilling effect on embassy staff due to his close ties to Mark Levin, a vocal supporter of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
What the Evidence Establishes
The New York Times, cited by the Daily Caller, reported that Milstein frequently suppressed or manipulated embassy reports to portray the Netanyahu government favorably and to minimize settler violence in the West Bank.
Specific allegations include that Milstein intervened to prevent the transmission of the March embassy analysis, which concluded that Israeli authorities had not pursued charges in any of the nine killings and that investigations had effectively gone nowhere.
The Daily Caller references a September Politico Playbook article stating that Milstein distributed a Paperless Post wedding invitation on September 16, 2026, soliciting monetary gifts in U.S. dollars or shekels, later removing QR codes and noting the invitation reached a broader list than intended.
An unnamed intelligence official quoted by Politico warned that soliciting cash gifts from foreign sources while holding a high‑level clearance could pose a national‑security risk.
Ambassador Huckabee responded via an X post on October 8, 2026, denying the allegations, calling the New York Times story "farcical" and comparing it to previously debunked Times reports, and threatening legal action for defamation.
Where the Accounts Conflict
The Daily Caller and the New York Times portray Milstein as actively obstructing accountability, while Ambassador Huckabee’s X post characterizes the allegations as baseless and lacking any named sources.
Huckabee’s statement claims the Times is assembling a story from insufficient facts and suggests the outlet should consult attorneys about potential defamation liability, directly contradicting the Times’ reliance on unnamed embassy staffers and officials.
The Politico report about the wedding invitation is not disputed by Huckabee in his X post, but he earlier defended Milstein against the same Politico accusation, calling it a "1,000‑word rant" and implying the claim was unfounded.
Thus, the conflict centers on whether Milstein’s actions constituted a deliberate cover‑up (per the Times/Daily Caller) or were innocuous administrative decisions misrepresented by hostile media (per Huckabee’s defense).
Context and Stakes
The allegations involve the deaths of nine U.S. citizens in the West Bank, a matter that has already drawn congressional scrutiny, as evidenced by the February‑to‑March timeline: the killing of Nasrallah Abu Siyam in February prompted the letter from thirty congressmembers to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
If the embassy’s March findings are accurate—that Israeli investigations produced no charges—the suppression of that report would impede oversight and possibly allow patterns of settler violence to continue without U.S. accountability measures.
The wedding‑gift solicitation raises separate concerns under federal ethics rules that prohibit officials from accepting gifts from foreign governments; the intelligence official’s warning ties the episode to potential national‑security risks due to Milstein’s clearance level.
These events occur amid broader debates over U.S. policy toward Israeli settlements, with former President Trump having previously opposed annexation, while the current administration’s stance remains unstated in the sources.
What to Watch Next
Congressional committees may follow up on the March letter by requesting a briefing from the State Department on the status of the nine investigations, a step consistent with prior oversight actions after similar constituent inquiries.
The State Department’s Office of the Legal Adviser could review whether Milstein’s alleged solicitation of foreign monetary gifts violates the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act or clearance regulations, potentially triggering an internal security review.
Media outlets may seek comment from the named individuals—David Milstein, Mike Huckabee, Mark Levin, and Senator Chris Van Hollen—to clarify whether any official response or corrective action has been issued regarding the embassy report.
Additionally, watch for any public statements from the Israeli government or the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem addressing the handling of the fatal incidents and the allegations of report suppression.
Bottom Line
The core claim is that David Milstein blocked a detailed U.S. Embassy report that found no charges in the killings of nine American citizens in the West Bank, a claim supported by the New York Times and the Daily Caller through alleged embassy staff accounts.
Ambassador Huckabee denies the allegations, asserting the story lacks named sources and is factually deficient, while Politico’s wedding‑gift report remains uncontested but was previously defended by Huckabee.
If the suppression occurred, it undermines congressional oversight and raises ethical concerns about foreign gift acceptance; if unsubstantiated, the episode reflects a media‑driven controversy lacking evidentiary support.
Resolution will depend on further documentation, potential congressional hearings, or internal State Department reviews that can confirm or refute the alleged actions of Milstein and the embassy’s reporting practices.
